Information we use
This policy covers the ScreenNap app and these legal pages. “We” means the ScreenNap developer, who you can contact below.
- Account details. If you create or link an account, we process your name, username, account identifier, sign in provider, and the email address or phone number supplied by that provider. Email/password sign in uses Firebase Authentication.
- Profile and progress. Your age answer, estimated screen hours, onboarding answers about focus, sleep and wellbeing, onboarding replies, commitment, settings, points, streaks, focus activities, intervention choices, and appearance choices are saved locally. When you set up account progress, this profile and activity history can sync through Firebase.
- Reflections. A screen time request can save the app name, typed or transcribed reason, date, requested minutes, approval outcome, trigger category, and feedback. Signed in requests can send the reason to our online service for rule based evaluation; saved reflections can sync for history and pattern insights.
- Purchases. Apple processes payment. ScreenNap uses purchase and subscription details confirmed by Apple to unlock access. Account setup may store whether your subscription is active. We do not receive your full payment card details.
- Safety reports and blocks. When you choose to report a user or shared reflection, we store the report reason, optional details, reporter and target account identifiers, the reflection identifier when applicable, a server captured snapshot of the reported content, creation time and review state. A profile snapshot includes the name and username. A reflection snapshot also includes the app name, reason, feedback and date. Review decisions add the moderator identifier, decision and review time. Blocks store the target account identifier, display name and creation time, so we can enforce your choice.
- Support and service operation. If you email us, we receive the information you choose to send. Authentication and cloud providers also process technical information, such as IP addresses, app, device and operating system details, and information about the software used by the app, to deliver and secure their services. Google sign in may use your IP address to estimate your general location for fraud prevention. ScreenNap does not request GPS location.
We use this information to provide the features you request, save and restore progress, evaluate screen time requests, show patterns, personalize your experience, manage access, and answer support requests. Our current request evaluation and pattern insights use programmed rules, rather than sending your reflections to a generative AI provider. Avoid including sensitive information about yourself or other people in a reason or support message.
Device permissions
- Screen Time. With your authorization, Apple’s Screen Time frameworks manage selected apps, categories, websites, usage reports, and blocking. Selection tokens and blocking schedules stay on each device and are never uploaded. App names and minutes you record in reflections are separate data described above.
- Camera. Mirror Mode and exercise counting use live camera frames and Apple Vision processing on your device. ScreenNap does not record or upload camera video to its online service.
- Microphone and speech. If you speak a reason, Apple’s speech recognizer receives audio for transcription and may process it on Apple’s servers. Speech is not guaranteed to work offline. ScreenNap does not save or upload an audio recording to its online service; the resulting text may be saved and synced as a reflection. See Apple’s speech privacy information.
- Notifications. With permission, ScreenNap sends reminders and notices about focus and access. You can change notification permission in iOS Settings.
You can revoke device permissions in iOS Settings. Features relying on a permission may then stop working.
Social websites and cookies
When you open a social website inside ScreenNap, it loads through Apple’s web view. The website receives your connection details and anything you submit there, including sign in information. It may set cookies, store website data, display advertising, and collect information under its own privacy policy.
ScreenNap’s in app browsers share persistent website storage on this device. That storage is not separated by ScreenNap account. Switching accounts, signing out of ScreenNap, deleting your ScreenNap account, or choosing Delete local data does not clear social website cookies or signed in website sessions. Use each website’s own sign out and privacy controls to manage its account.
ScreenNap processes page and scrolling information locally to apply filters and browser controls. When signed in to ScreenNap, it also keeps up to 1,000 local browsing interval records for that account. These contain your ScreenNap account identifier, a browsing session identifier, the social platform, start and end times, browsing duration, and scroll count. Qualified browsing time also helps decide when to offer an app review. ScreenNap account sync does not upload these interval records, website cookies, or your browser history. Filters do not guarantee that a website stops tracking you.
These legal pages contain no analytics scripts, advertising trackers, or contact forms. The server hosting them receives ordinary request information, such as your IP address and browser details, to serve the pages. External links and your email application have their own data practices.
Retention and account deletion
Saved local profile, progress, and reflections remain on a device until you remove the app’s data or delete the app. Local browsing interval history keeps only the latest 1,000 records for each ScreenNap account. Device backups may retain copies under your backup settings. Cloud account content remains until you delete the account or request removal. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics retention follows the configured service settings and Google’s retention practices. This usage and error information is separate from cloud account records and is not matched to your account during account deletion. Provider security logs and backup copies follow the providers’ retention practices; deletion does not mean every provider backup disappears immediately.
To delete your cloud account, open Settings → Account → Delete account. You may need to verify your sign in again. The deletion flow removes your account profile, cloud activities, reflections and analysis, username reservation, friend relationships and requests, stored blocks, and moderation reports involving the account. If it fails or you cannot access your account, contact us.
Safety reports, whether pending or reviewed, are eligible for scheduled removal 90 days after creation. Friend requests are eligible for removal after 30 days. Cleanup runs daily when the online service is operating; service failures or a backlog may delay removal. An authorized operator or account deletion involving the reporter or reported account can remove reports sooner. Blocks remain until you unblock or either account is deleted. Account deletion also removes that account’s report quota. Contact us about removal of information you submitted in a safety report or support email.
To prevent old requests from recreating deleted data, the online service retains a deletion status record linked to your deleted account identifier. A completed record contains the deletion status and completion time, without your profile, reflections, or friend content. It currently has no automatic expiry. If deletion is interrupted, temporary processing information may remain, including the request time, username needed for cleanup, timing for further attempts and time limits on active attempts, attempt count and a generic failure code. The online service queues deletion before cleanup and schedules retries so completion can continue after you leave the app. Do not assume deletion completed from an attempted request; contact us if it fails or you cannot sign in again.
Deleting your ScreenNap account does not erase local progress on every device, clear social website cookies or signed in sessions, delete your social website accounts, or cancel an Apple subscription. To reset this device, open Settings → Delete local data and confirm. This signs you out and removes local profile, rules and reflections, while your cloud progress remains saved. Repeat on each device as needed, use the websites’ own sign out controls, and manage subscriptions separately with Apple.
Your choices and rights
You can use device features without setting up a cloud account, choose whether to speak or type, change device permissions, edit your account name and username, remove friends, and turn reflection sharing off.
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access or receive a copy of your information, correct it, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, or withdraw consent. Email us to make a request. For an access, export, correction or deletion request, include the account email or username and the action you want. Do not include your password. We may ask for enough information to verify account ownership, and we will respond under applicable law. You can also raise a concern with your local data protection authority.
Where consent is required for optional features, you can withdraw it through the relevant settings or by contacting us. If you believe a child provided account information without required permission, contact us so we can review and address it.
